Phytoremediation Potential of Selected Ornamental Woody Species to Heavy Metal Accumulation in Response to Long-Term Irrigation with Treated Wastewater

چکیده
Arid and semiarid environments of Mediterranean countries suffer from scarcity water resources, which limits their agriculture productivity. Using treated wastewater (TWW) is considered an alternative strategy for irrigation purposes in such areas. However, TWW contains substantial levels heavy metals (HMs) contaminants that pollute the environment soil. The aim this study to evaluate phytoremediation potential six selected woody tree species under long-term with TWW. concentration, bioaccumulation factor (BFC), translocation (TF), comprehensive bioconcentration index (CBCI) HMs were measured various parts (roots, bark, leaves) studied species. results show a general pattern mineral accumulation roots low areal Cupressus sempervirens, native environments, had higher TF values Fe, Mn, Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb its compared other shows Ficus nitida has be hyperaccumulator Cd value exceeds 12. Deciduous trees (Populus nigra Robinia pseudoacacia) found have high Ni toward parts, whereas Cr (1.21) was only P. bark. sempervirens had, significantly, highest bark leaf CBCI (0.83 0.82, respectively), second-highest leaves (0.56 0.51, respectively). Therefore, are good hyperaccumulators HMs, can used activities polluted

long term effects of different irrigation methods with wastewater on heavy metals accumulation in soil
demand for water resources in different parts of the world, necessitate the use of wastewater. in using wastewater the soil health must be considered. this study was carried out at green space zob ahan in the years 1382 to 1385. in this study, the effects of urban and industrial wastewater irrigation on some chemical properties of soil for three years by using five different irrigation treatmen...
متن کاملHeavy Metal Accumulation in Plant Species Indigenous to a Contaminated Portuguese Site: Prospects for Phytoremediation
Phytoremediation is a promising alternative to conventional soil clean-up methods; however, up to date, there is still not enough information on plant species suitable for application in this field of science. Therefore, plant screening on contaminated sites can lead to the identification of further species of interest. In the present study, pedological and botanical characteristics of an indus...
متن کاملAccumulation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals in lettuce grown in the soils contaminated with long-term wastewater irrigation.
Accumulation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals (HMs) by crop plants from contaminated soils may pose health risks. A greenhouse pot experiment using lettuce (Lactuca satuva L.) as a representative vegetable was conducted to assess the concentrations of PAHs and HMs in vegetables grown in wastewater-contaminated soils. The concentrations of total PAHs were ranged from 1...
متن کاملPhytoremediation of urban wastewater by model wetlands with ornamental hydrophytes.
Phytoremediation offers a cost-effective, non-intrusive, and safe alternative to conventional cleanup techniques. In this study, we used ornamental hydrophytes plants as constructed wetlands to treat urban or rural domestic wastewater. Most ornamental hydrophytes adapted to the wastewater well, and were fairly efficient in scavenging BOD5 (biological oxygen demand 5 d), COD (chemical oxygen dem...
متن کاملHeavy Metal Accumulation in Wild Plants: Implications for Phytoremediation
This work addresses the issue of Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd, Ni and Cr accumulation in wildgrown plants in the context of their possible use for the sanitation of sludge and waste substrates. The highest contents of heavy metals were noted in Lactuca serriola, Chenopodium album, Artemisia vulgaris and Atriplex nitens. Assuming maximum crop production which is to be obtained from sludge and waste substrates...
